| About Us |
|
As most
of you know, this is the second time around for
both of us. . And we are very happy we found
each other. We were as surprised as all of you
were when our desire to find someone to "go to
the movies with" turned into a romance! We often
sing the tune to the television show “Green
Acres” when we describe our relationship,
because it truly represents who we are as
individuals and as a couple.
Bill
grew up in a small college town in
Western Pennsylvania where everyone is friendly, many people
have known each other for a very long time and
conversations are sometimes punctuated with
“Guess who I saw at the Giant Eagle supermarket
today?” The answer is invariably, “Hmmm. Is it
a man or a woman? How do I know them? Did I go
to school with them?” . . . and the questions
continue until the unknown person seen at the
store is identified.
Elisa,
on the other hand, grew up in New York City, where people tend to be a bit more
direct. So the same conversation about seeing a
friend might have gone something like this,
“You’ll never guess who I saw in the city
today”. There might be a slight
pause in the conversation to allow the speaker
to take a breath or to look at the listener to
make sure they were paying attention, but the
speaker would automatically continue to tell the
listener who they saw that day. . . never
imagining that the listener would want to try to
guess who the speaker saw that
day!
We
often laugh about how different our perspectives
are. . . Bill will always be looking for “fresh
air” and Elisa will always be looking for “Times
Square”, but we recognize that marriage is about
compromise and somehow find our way. This is
also why many of you will be traveling to
Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania for our wedding—it is a place where we have
successfully found some common ground.

| How We Met |
|
It all
started with a number of REALLY LONG phone
conversations where we both talked about our
previous 20+ year marriages, how we were
saddened by the end of our marriages but looked
at this time in our lives as a sort of "new
beginning". We also expressed our fears about
dating--after all, we were both pretty "out of
the dating loop" and "would not even know what
to say to someone if we were on a date". . . But
somehow we managed to find the right words. We
found that we were both pretty much the
same--warm, loving, giving, caring people
looking for another person to share the joys of
life.
Our
first date was at Maggiano’s
http://www.maggianos.com/
Italian restaurant on December 27, 2005. This
date quickly led to a date on New Year’s Eve to
the Glitter Ball at the Franklin Institute
www.fi.edu,
in
Philadelphia. We did not see much of each
other in January (We lived and worked 2+ hours
from one another) but in February Elisa helped
Bill move into his brand new town house. .we
shared our first kiss. . . and the rest is
history.
